The Division won’t have a companion app after all

Massive Entertainment has confirmed the companion app for its upcoming game, Tom Clancy’s The Division, has been cancelled saying it created an imbalance that negatively affected gameplay.

The companion app, which Massive Entertainment referred to as a “really meaningful” experience, would have allowed for both simultaneous and asymmetric gameplay between the player’s mobile device and the game itself.

Players would be able to seamlessly join a game as a drone, which would allow them to provide tactical support for its teammates by giving them a bird’s eye view of the battlefield. The companion app would also allow the ability to offer armor buffs to teammates as well.

Companion app or not, Ubisoft’s The Division is still scheduled to host a beta on the Xbox One later this year with additional betas taking place on the PC and PlayStation 4 in early 2016. The game itself is scheduled to release on March 8.

You can check out all of the neat features the companion app would have added to The Division.
