Digital music – ‘20% music sales by 2008’
The singles marketplace is in resurgence because of digital music services, a number one music business figure stated yesterday.
Speaking in the Music 2. conference, The new sony BMG’s global digital business president Thomas Hesse revealed industry optimism in the emerging possibilities of recent music delivery systems, for example iTunes and ringtones.
Digital Music News reviews he stated: “Digital music is anticipated to develop to 19-20 % from the market by 2008. This can be a fundamental transformation.”
He anticipates exclusive digital sales, pre-release sales and video as new methods to harness digital technologies to spur music sales.
Also, he favours new payment systems for artists, where they get compensated a portion by revenue, instead of unit, sales.
